Session 1 DEFSA Writing Workshop

This workshop session was geared towards young design academics who are compiling academic research papers, and is helpful to all educators finalising their papers for the DEFSA 2023 Conference in September 2023. It covered: • Structure of an academic paper • Building an argument • Academic paper writing do's and don'ts • Referencing • Checklist before submitting

Session 2 DEFSA Research Ethics Workshop

The workshop aims to provide guidance on research ethics reporting in papers for the 2023 DEFSA proceedings. Papers may be rejected if they do not meet ethics standards for the collection of data from humans or animals.

•    Research ethics and statutory requirements • The DoH 2015 Ethics in Health Research Guidelines • University’s research ethics committees • Data collection •  Ethics clearance certificate.•   Open Science Platform • Anonymity •   Conflict of interest and an ethics declaration.• AI, text originality, use of imagery, and plagiarism  •    Predatory and hijacked journals.

The workshop was presented by Prof Rudi de Lange, TUT emeritus professor and an NRF C3-Rated researcher.

DEFSA conferences
